St. John's Wort
Hypericum perforatum
Used inside and out for more than 2,000 years, St. John's wort got its name from a few different places. Some say it was named for John the Baptist. "Wort" is an Old English word for "plant." Others believe this healthful herb is named after Jerusalem's knights of St. John, who are said to have used it to treat battle wounds during the Crusades. Hypericin, a chemical compound in St. John's wort, supports a positive mood and outlook. The "good mood" support of St. John's wort has led this ancient herb to become one of the most studied in contemporary research!
