Catnip
Nepeta cataria

Cats around the world have reveled in this fabulous herb for more than 2000 years. They've deigned to share it with their owners, probably just to ensure an unending supply for themselves. Before the 17th century debut of black tea in England, catnip tea was a popular beverage there. Colonists brought the catnip plant to America. Interestingly, although catnip causes quite a bit of excitement in cats, it is believed to have exactly the opposite effect on humans. Catnip tea has a long history of use as a calming brew, to soothe your stomach and quiet your mind.
